THE FIRST TIME I SAW MY DAD CRY

At first it was just another night of racing at the old Starlite Speedway back in the summer of 1973. My dad, due to cash flow, was not racing that night so we watched from the hood of our car in the infield that night. Then there was a bad crash and a fire on the front stretch! My dad ran toward the scene telling me to stay with my mom! After a while she couldn't hold me back and I ran over to see a line of men (including my dad) passing buckets of water from the pond to the charred remains of a terrible wreck that had happened! After a while I finally saw my dad walking back toward me and he quickly scooped me up and we headed back to the car where we got in and my dad began to cry! Then I heard him tell my mom that James Sears had died in the crash!
